So, it was brought to my attention that I have a website on Neocities today.
I’d forgotten about that.
So sorry to keep you waiting… Hello!
It’s a funny story what brought me back here to my text editor.
So, I’m sitting around poking through the various social medias that I’m currently consuming and comparing, I notice I’ve got a message on Mastodon.
It’s from a guy I don’t think I know, and who seems to be new but he tells me that he saw somebody had posted about my blog over on Gemini and thought I might like to read it and tosses me along a link.
Which I appreciated somebody letting me know because Gemini is a text-only neighborhood of the Internet that most people don’t know about, that I regularly forget is a thing and while I’ve found myself nerdy enough to know about it, I’ve never actually found anybody using it actively that I could follow along with…. In other words, I probably would never have found this without somebody who’d stumbled across both of us telling me.
It made me smile remembering the lovely serendipity of the early Internet… a time before the commment section was common. When you wouldn’t know somebody had replied with their own take on what you’d written on their own website unless they reached out to show you or somebody who was acquainted with you both passed it along.
So, thank you Winter for your kind words that have brought me back to writing in this space.
So, what happened? What’s the plan now?
Not long after my last post, I had a bit of a medical event which slowed me down significantly and in my state of reduced energy, maintaining a website wasn’t high on my list of priorities, so this little corner of the web I carved out for myself got abandoned and to some extent forgotten.
Truth be told, I didn’t start out the project with a ton of momentum or vision, so it’s not surprising that I let it languish. Also, social media has to some extent conditioned me to be motivated by the lure of a response, which isn’t exactly supposed to be the motivator in this space of the web, but clearly I’ve neglected it without it.
That being said, I do have some sort of desire for an online presence that’s outside of the walls of social networks. So maybe, just maybe I’ll return here with field notes about my art, my life, etc.
I’m still trying to figure out why I’m drawn to doing this as a thought exercise.
